The holiday season is just right around the corner, with it slowly approaching, what do you and your family or friends have planned for the season? Just going to go to family Christmas parties all holiday season long? There are so many other fun, Christmas activities that you can do around Christmas time. Seeing Santa, going tree picking, making reindeer food for Santa's reindeer, and so much more! One of our favorite things to do around the holiday season is going to see different light shows! One of the best part about Christmas are all of the different lights. Something about Christmas lights and decorations makes everyone feel warm, calm and happy. Christmas light tours found their way into America in the 1960's and have been a huge part of Christmas celebration ever since. Christmas lights are one of the very best things about the Christmas season. Allow us to talk you through all of our very favorite light shows.

Our top pick just has to be the Wayne County Light Fest, also referred to as the Hines Lights by many Michigan locals. This amazing light show is located at Merriman Road in Westland, Michigan to Warren Avenue near Telegraph in Dearborn Heights. This area is then transformed into a winter wonder land complete with lights as far as the eye can see, candy canes, santa clause and snowflakes. The route is open from 7:00PM to 10:00PM, November 18th, through December 31st. The only day that Hines will be closed for business is Christmas day. The cost per vehicle is a complete steal at only $5 a car! Before it's 6 week run begins, Hines Drive will start off with a Light Fest 8K Fun Run/Walk. Starting at 7:00PM on Tuesday, November 15th, the Fun Run will start at the Hines entrance at Merriman Road and Hines Drive. Hines drive will be closed at that time to non-race traffic. Check in for the run will begin at 5:30PM and will go to 6:45PM. Registrations made in advance will only be $20 and they will be $25 at the day of the event. All proceeds of this event will be put back and used for improving Wayne County Parks. The lucky first 1,000 patrons to register will receive a long sleeve t-shirt and a free after run meal provided by Wayne County Parks! The second event the park will have leading up the the event will be held on Wednesday, November 16th. This event is called Bike Through The Lights. It allows patrons to ride bikes through the amazing light show before it even opens for business. Check in for this event will begin at 5:30PM and will go through til 6:45PM, the bike riding starts promptly at 7:00PM! High school participants and younger will get to ride the path for only $12! Registration fees for those who register before the day of the event will only be $20, and the day of the event registration will cost $25. This is a 16K event and there are a couple of rules all riders need to abide by, this is a point to point event, so all riders will have to be able to make it to the Warrendale picnic area and back. All participants must also be wearing a helmet and all bikes must have light due to the two-way traffic. There will also be a contest for best decorated bike and a reward will be awarded to the winner! The first lucky 300 people to register will receive a long sleeve t shirt and a post bike ride meal, for free!

This brings us to opening night! On Thursday, November 17th, promptly at 6:00PM, the night of celebration will officially begin! The opening night will feature so many fun activities! The opening will feature free refreshments, a fire works show, free entertainment, and, of course, the “Lights On!” ceremony. The best part is, there is no cost at all to get in! This is your one and only change to get a first sneak peak look at the lights without having to pay for it! The Wayne County Light Fest is know as the largest and longest light show within the Midwest! The festival is celebrating it's 21st Anniversary this year. Workers are currently hard at work putting up those thousands and thousands of lights for this years Light Fest. Such an easy, fun and exciting family or group outing for any and everyone! Come on down to The Wayne County Light Fest this holiday season and you will feel the warm and happy feelings of Christmas all around you! You just can't beat only 5$ a car!
